Our story · Shaun + Chris
Built together. Built to bring people together.
Koa’s began with a shared idea between the two of us: create a place—and a way of hosting—where people could slow down, feel cared for and celebrate in a way that actually felt like them.
The beginning
It started with a conversation about how people should feel when they gather.
We kept coming back to the same thing: the celebrations people remember most are not necessarily the ones that feel the most produced. They are the ones where the people at the center of the day are present enough to actually experience it.
We wanted to build something warm and personal, but still organized. Beautiful, but not rigid. A place where a couple, a family or a team could bring their own ideas instead of being handed one formula for what an event was supposed to look like.
That became the foundation of Koa’s: give people a strong setting, thoughtful support and genuine hospitality—then leave enough room for the event to become their own.

The place
At Mountain View, the idea has a home.
The property expresses what we wanted Koa’s to feel like from the beginning: private, tropical, flexible and intentionally different from a ballroom or resort corridor.
We never wanted every event here to look the same. Koa’s is a canvas. Florals can be lush or restrained. The pavilion can feel romantic, modern, tropical, candlelit or completely unexpected. Our job is not to impose a house style—it is to help create the conditions for your style to work.

Two people, building one experience side by side.
We bring different experiences, instincts and strengths to Koa’s, but we agree on the part that matters most: people should feel welcomed, communication should be clear and the details should support the celebration rather than take it over.
What began as the two of us talking about the kind of experience we wanted to create has grown into a place filled with vows, first dances, birthdays, dinners, retreats and all the ordinary moments in between that make a gathering feel real.
How the idea shows up today
One philosophy, whether you gather here or bring Koa’s with you.
Today, that same approach runs through both sides of Koa’s. At the Mountain View property, we host weddings and gatherings in a private setting that can be transformed around the people using it. Through Koa’s Mobile Bar, we bring the same hospitality to celebrations around Hawaiʻi Island.
The services are different. The standard is the same: be prepared, be welcoming, communicate clearly and make the experience feel personal.

What guides us
People. Place. Good company.
People
Make people feel welcomed, heard and cared for.
Place
Let Hawaiʻi Island character be part of the experience, not something pasted onto it.
Good company
Create the conditions for people to connect, celebrate and remember why they gathered.
